The film plays on the car screen
Picture on the car's display, sound through the car, in a car whose maker has turned on CarPlay's video support.
The same film keeps playing as audio
No picture, by design. CarPlay shows Now Playing, and the film picks up where it left off when you stop.
Where this stands today
Video on the car screen is a CarPlay category Apple introduced in iOS 27. Apple requires each car maker to turn it on, and at the time of writing no maker has publicly shipped it. Until one does, CineDrive behaves as an audio app in the car: your film plays, with Now Playing on the screen, and the picture waits for a car that supports it.
We would rather say that plainly than sell you a screen that is not switched on yet.
It plays what you actually have
Not every film file is in a format an iPhone can play. That is CineDrive's problem, not yours.
Add a film and CineDrive works out whether the phone can play it as it is. If it cannot, the file is converted once, automatically, when you add it, and a progress ring shows the work. MKV, AVI, WebM and the rest are handled this way. After that it is an ordinary film in your library.
Films come in from Files (including iCloud Drive, a USB drive or an SD reader) or from your Photos library, and are copied into CineDrive rather than linked. The film keeps playing later even if the original is gone.

Pick the poster from a frame of the film itself, or from Photos.
Hidden films, behind Face ID
A hidden film leaves the grid, search and every CarPlay list. It never reaches the car screen, and the Lock Screen shows only “Private film”, with no artwork.
What we know about you
Nothing. The privacy policy is the long version, and it is short.
- The app makes no network requests at all. Nothing is reported home, and nothing is fetched, not even artwork.
- No account, no sign-in, no email address.
- Your films are your own files. There is no store, no streaming service and nothing to download from us.
- Films live in CineDrive's own storage on the phone, and are kept out of your iCloud backup so they do not eat your quota.
- Because nothing is collected, there is nothing for us to sell, share or lose.
Watch responsibly
CineDrive never shows video to a driver. Picture on the car's screen is available only when the car reports that it is parked, which is Apple's rule and the right one. While the car is moving, the film continues as sound only.
